The brick barbecue and campfire area form a shared outdoor kitchen. A few ideas for an easy evening without restaurant reservations.
A good forest dinner can be simple: vegetables, good bread, something to drink and a fire to sit beside. No need to rush on to the next activity.
We built LoveLaski's shared outdoor kitchen with a brick barbecue for our first May holiday weekend. Now it is used throughout the warmer season.
What's in the outdoor kitchen?
The brick barbecue has a large firebox and a food preparation counter. Use wood or charcoal according to current safety rules and the hosts' instructions.
The campfire area is nearby. Both are shared spaces, so keep them tidy and leave them as you would like to find them.
Simple food to bring along
Ingredients that need little equipment work well:
- vegetables cut in advance and packed in a container;
- cheese suitable for grilling;
- good bread and simple accompaniments;
- potatoes, sweetcorn or other foods that cook well over fire;
- a flask of something warm for a cool evening.
Every cabin has an equipped kitchen, so you can prepare things indoors if the weather changes.
Take care around fire
Always follow current fire safety notices and the hosts' instructions. Use of outdoor fires may be restricted when the fire risk is high.
Never leave a fire unattended, and clean up after your evening.

Cooking together at a slower pace
One person watches the fire, another prepares food, someone pours a drink. Dinner can come together gradually.
The pleasure is in having time together, as much as in the scent of wood smoke and the food itself.
What if it rains?
If it rains, move dinner indoors. Each cabin has a kitchen and table, and the fireplace makes a cosy setting for an evening at home.
