In the cabinHow do I light the fireplace?Interactive guide
Start by preparing the firebox. The next steps cover arranging the wood, lighting the fire and adjusting the flame.
Open the first step below.
Preparation
- Make sure the stove is clean and free of ash and leftover wood from the previous fire.
- Check that the air vent at the bottom of the stove is open to let oxygen in.
The stove and flue become hot during use. Do not place anything on them. Use the protective gloves stored in the cabinet beneath the television.
Arranging the wood
- Place a few larger logs at the bottom of the stove.
- Add a few smaller pieces of dry wood for a steadier fire. Do not overfill it: the firebox should be filled to about half its height.
Lighting the fire
- Matches or a lighter are in the cabinet beneath the television. Use them to light the firelighter. Do not burn paper, plastic, foil or similar materials.
- Once the smaller pieces are burning, gradually add larger logs.
Adjusting the flame
- After the wood catches, reduce the air supply using the vent to control the flame.
- Too much air can make the wood burn too quickly.
Important tips
- Do not add too much wood. A few well-arranged pieces are enough to reach a comfortable temperature without overheating. Do not add fresh wood until the previous load has burned down.
- Never leave the stove burning unattended, especially with pets in the cabin. Keep sparks and embers inside the firebox.
- If too much ash has built up, ask us to help clean it out.
- Fire extinguishers are available in every cabin and outside on the grounds.
A fire, a quiet cabin and an unhurried evening. That is enough.
